Happy New Year everyone! Our Resolutions are still fresh in our minds, and we’re probably actively working to achieve them. Our goals are still within sight. The beginning of the year is the time to stretch ourselves beyond our comfort zone and reach for our true potential. We all have limits we’ve unknowingly imposed on ourselves (I can’t run that far, I can’t write for that long, etc…). Let’s work together this year to move beyond those limits. We can all achieve more than we know.
We at the Wordbitches have an exciting year coming up. We have a new Wordbitch to introduce at the end of the month. (ooooh!) Leanne has a new children’s book coming out in spring. (squee!) Elena has a new series coming out this year. (Woot! Woot!) I have decided to branch out and write in not one, but two genres. (gasp!) And Marianne has finished one novel and is starting a new one (which I am totally hoping she turns into a series because it is hilarious, just like her). There’s so much happening with the Wordbitches this year that I know it’s hard to contain your excitement.
Because it’s the season of goal setting. I’ve found a couple of posts that might help inspire you or help you achieve your writing goals.
Veronica Roth’s classic post about writing first drafts and fighting perfectionism. Loud, Ugly,Wild, Free
JA Konrath’s Resolutions for Writers is long, but it’s how his resolutions have changed each year since 2006. Interesting and many useful ones for us to steal.
Ruth Harris’s post on 6 Writing Dragons… And How to Slay Them.
Here’s a craft one that I found very useful on Character Arcs. Short and Sweet. The Power of Renewal by Heather Webb on Writer Unboxed.
And here is just something funny that I wanted to share, because we all need more funny in our lives. (Make sure you watch all the way to the end. And yes, I have a weird sense of humour.) BEANS
I hope this is the year we all achieve our goals. What are yours? Have you started working towards them already?
